Build for the hardest conditions, and everything else gets easy

We are in Nairobi on purpose. Building for intermittent networks, low-end devices and mobile money makes better engineers than building for office fibre ever will.

4 open roles

What it is actually like here

Not the recruiting version. This is what the week looks like.

  • Small teams, full ownership

Three to five people per engagement, each owning a domain end to end. No handoffs between a team that designed it and a team that has to live with it.

  • Demos beat status reports

Every two weeks you see working software, not a percentage. Progress you can click is the only progress we count.

  • Engineering time is protected

Deep work blocks, asynchronous by default, and a meeting culture that has to justify itself. Good systems need uninterrupted thinking.

  • We build in this market on purpose

Our team is in Nairobi because the constraints here produce better engineers. Building for intermittent networks and low-end devices makes everything else easy.

What comes with the job

  • Above-market pay

Benchmarked annually against Nairobi and regional remote rates.

  • Hybrid by default

Two days in the Westlands studio, the rest wherever you work best.

  • Learning budget

KES 80,000 a year for courses, conferences and books, no approval theatre.

  • Real equipment

A machine that can actually run your toolchain, plus a test device budget.

  • Medical cover

Comprehensive inpatient and outpatient cover including dependants.

  • Protected deep work

No-meeting mornings. Good systems need uninterrupted thinking.

  • Fortnightly demos

You present your own work to the client. Credit goes where it is due.

  • Paid volunteering

Five days a year for community tech work, including our schools programme.

Where we need people right now

If none of these fit but you think you should be here, write to us anyway. We have created roles for the right person before.
